"Manolo Cardona Biography" DATE OF BIRTH April 25, 1977 PLACE OF BIRTH Cauca (Cauca Department), Popayán Colombia DATE OF DEATH The main route from Popayán and Cali to Bogotá used to pass through Salento (see below), but when the route was diverted the town became isolated and did not develop as rapidly as the rest of the region. For this reason it has retained more of its traditional colonial architecture than almost any other town in the ''eje cafetero'' (Colombian Coffee-Growers Axis), along with a quiet and relaxed way of life, and as a result the town and nearby Cocora valley are among the most popular tourist destinations in Colombia. History In the colonial era, the main route from Popayán to Bogotá traveled over the Quindío Pass (aka "La Línea (La Línea (Road Pass))"), passing through the modern-day site of Salento. In 1830 Simón Bolívar traveled the route and ordered that it be upgraded due to its poor condition and strategic importance. However, the town was not established until 5 January 1842, after the ''Guerra de los Supremos''. Political prisoners from that war were sent from Panamá, Antioquia (Antioquia Department) and Cauca (Cauca department) to upgrade and maintain the road. After completing their sentences they were given a plot of land in the region. The '''Pubenza Festivities''' are a festival that takes place in Popayán, Colombia, known for its competition of ''Chirimías'' which were folkloric musical groups. See Festivals in Colombia for more Colombian festivals. The dispute over the form of government eventually erupted into war by the end of 1812, and once again in 1814. The first war resulted in a stalemate, which nevertheless allowed Cundinamarca to organize an expedition against royalist regions of Popayán and Pasto. It resulted in defeat and its dynamic president, Antonio Nariño, was captured. Facing an enfeebled Cundinamarca, the United Provinces took the opportunity to send an army against it, headed by Simón Bolívar, who had fled Venezuela for the second time after the fall of the Second Republic of Venezuela. Bolívar and his army forced the submission of Cundinamarca to the Union by December 1814. However, by mid-1815 a large Spanish expeditionary force (Spanish reconquest of New Granada) under Pablo Morillo had arrived in New Granada, which bolstered earlier royalist advances made by Santa Marta. Morillo lay siege on Cartagena on August and it finally fell five months later in December with the city suffering large numbers of civilian casualties due to famine and disease. By May 1816 Morillo and royalists from the south had conquered Bogotá and returned all of New Granada to royalist control until August 1819, when forces under the command of Simón Bolívar retook the central part of the region. Jorge Isaacs was born in Quibdó in 1837. Little is known about his childhood, but in some of his poems Isaacs portrays the Valley of the Cauca (Cauca River) as an idyllic place where he spent his most of it. He was first educated in Santiago de Cali, then in Popayán and, finally, in Bogotá between 1848 and 1852. History Coins were produced at mints in Bogotá, Caracas, Guatemala City, Lima, Mexico City, Popayán, Potosí, Santo Domingo and Santiago. For details, see the: History Until 1820, Colombia used the Spanish colonial real, some of which were minted in Bogotá and Popayán. After 1820, issues were made specifically for Colombia, under the various names that the state used. In 1837, the peso (Colombian peso), worth 8 reales, became the primary unit of currency. The real continued to circulate as an eighth of a peso until 1847, when a new real was introduced worth one tenth of a peso and subdivided into 10 ''decimos de real''. This new real was renamed the decimo in 1853, although coins denominated in reales were again issued 1859-1862 and in 1880. After picking up supplies and militia volunteers in Santa Marta on July 23, the Spanish expeditionary forces besieged Cartagena (Cartagena, Colombia). After a five-month siege the fortified city fell on December 1815. By May 6, 1816, the combined efforts of Spanish and colonial forces, marching south from Cartagena and north from royalist strongholds in Quito, Pasto, and Popayán, completed the reconquest of New Granada, taking Bogotá. A permanent council of war (war council) was set up to judge those accused of treason and rebellion, resulting in the execution of more than a hundred notable republican officials, including Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Francisco José de Caldas and José María Cabal. Units of the republican armies of New Granada were incorporated into the royalist army and sent to Peru. birth_date

"Manolo Cardona Biography" Description The airport is the 6th busiest airport in Colombia in terms of passengers, with 836,234 in 2006. Most of these passengers come from the continental part of the country, due to poor international direct service to the island. Many international tourists have to fly to one of Colombia's or Panama's largest airports (Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla or Panama City) to be able to reach the islands. - 8. 12 July 2001 Cali, Colombia commons:Cali

of traditional majors (Academic major), students pursue a wide variety of courses (course (education)) in four different curricular distributions: the Creative Arts (writing, music, dance, theatre, film (film studies), and the plastic arts, such as painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture); history and the social sciences (e.g., anthropology, economics, political science, and sociology); the humanities (e.g., Asian studies, art history, film studies, languages, literature, philosophy, and religion); and natural science and mathematics (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and mathematics). Classes are structured around a seminar-conference system through which students learn in small, highly interactive classes and in private tutorials with professors. Each student is assigned to a faculty advisor, known as a "don (University don)", to plan a course of study and provide ongoing academic guidance. Most courses, apart from those in the performing arts, consist of two parts: the seminar, limited to 15 students, and the conference, a private, biweekly meeting with a seminar professor. In these conferences, students develop individual projects that extend the course material and link it to their personal interests. Sarah Lawrence has no required courses and traditional examinations have largely been replaced with writing final research papers (Term paper) and essays. Additionally, grades (Grade (education)) are recorded only for transcript purposes—academic evaluations are given in lieu of grades.
